We’ve Got You Covered.

At Birch Meadow, our goal is to work closely with you to give you the garden care that best suits you. That means that we will work side by side with you if you like, take detailed instructions on exactly what you want and do it for you, assess your situation and tell you what you need so that you can do it yourself, or take care of everything for you.  We can provide you with seasonal information on what needs to be done when, and do the research when we are not sure what is going on with your plants. We check in regularly, value your feedback, and respond as quickly as we can to your requests.

Fine Tuning

If you are planning a project or need many hands to make light work, we can help! We will assess your situation, provide a list of suggestions, and do the work that you choose to have done.

Pruning for Health

While most landscapers will come out with hedge trimmers and make sure your bushes aren’t getting oversized, they rarely take a look at the inside of your bushes to make sure that they are properly cared for. We make sure to remove dead or diseased branches and open up the center of your bushes to allow sunlight penetration and air circulation so that fungus and other problems are less likely. We keep track of appropriate timing for the type of pruning and within the bloom cycle of the specific bushes that need pruning. We also sterilize all tools between each plant and make recommendations for soil amendments when your bushes seem to need it.

Weeding

Sometimes a garden or an area just needs a good weeding. We know our weeds and work hard to make sure that the root systems of root spreaders are pulled in addition to what you see above ground.  We do not ever use herbicides.

Catching Up

GeneralMaintenanceOllis.jpg

There are all sorts of reasons why people’s yards get ahead of them, from health issues to vacations to lack of knowledge about what needs doing when. If your yard feels like an absolute jungle and you don’t know where to begin, we can help. We will provide a comprehensive to-do list, information on how to do it, and extra hands to help. We can also just clean up the whole mess for you so you don’t have to worry about getting back on track. If you are worried about keeping up once you’ve had your major clean up, we also offer maintenance service.

Mulching

Kristin3.jpeg

We mulch at all times of the year but recommend May through June when perennials have all come up and late October through November after the first frost lets plants know that it is time to go dormant.  We recommend a one to two inch layer of mulch in most cases, as heavier mulching provides excellent habitat for voles. Voles love to eat plant roots! Occasionally we recommend wood chips instead of mulch for weed suppression and soil building. Talk to us and we can help you make good decisions about your mulching needs.
